Handmade Card Tutorial #1: Loving This Lately

Hi! So exciting..1st handmade card tutorial that you can D-I-Y!

I try to make it simple but knowing me, I may further embellish the final card to make it a little bit more better like a touch of glitter or something. We'll see. But for now, let's get on with the programme! :)

Materials required:

  • 1 patterned paper with different patterns on both sides cut to slightly longer than 4" X 6" (e.g. 4.5" X 6.5") to ensure card is fully covered.
  •  Stamp set with either butterfly or flower images
  • 1 journal card or die cut piece
  • 1 stamp pad of any colour
  • Buttons
  • Stickers
  • Coloured Twine
  • Fancy Edge Scissors ($1.90 from Popular Bookstore)
  • 1 flower punch ($2 from Daiso)
  • A4 sized corrugated coloured paper ($0.45 from Popular Bookstore)
  • Buttons
  • Glue, Glue Tape & Double Sided Tape
  • 1 Plain Card 4"X6"

Additional Materials:

  • Washi Tapes of at least 2 varieties
  • Glitter Paper (optional) - Available at some Popular Bookstores selling scrapbooking materials or online
 Step 1:

Fully cover the card base with a patterned paper and the balance strip of paper to cover the middle of the card. Stamp a repetitive pattern of a flower image for the second half of the strip.

Cut a strip of washi tape and cut a diagonal edge and also cut a small piece of the corrugated board in semi circle and paste it near the edge of the washi tape.

Paste a journal card (3"X2") making sure it doesn't fully cover the washi tape and embellish the top left hand corner with a small piece of rectangular sticker, a slightly big button and paste a piece of twine tied to a bow on top of the button. Alternatively, you can string the twine through the button.

Use a flower puncher and punch out at least two flowers. Don't throw away the punched out small piece of patterned paper! Cut a ribbon edge and paste it on top of the corrugated board. Embellish the top of the sticker with the punched flower and another at the top of the washi tape meeting the journal card.

Cut a small piece of glitter paper with the fancy edge scissors and stick it below the sticker. to get it a layered look.

Paste button on top of the punched flower. I used a half pearl for the other punched flower instead of button.

Stamp an image of a butterfly in a diagonal manner almost to the edge of the other side of the card opposite the journal card.

Tip!: Don't waste the small pieces of scrap paper. Save them when you can. I used another smaller width washi tape to form as a border to the strip of patterned paper and layer a length of the scrap paper on top of it after you cut a ribbon edge.

The other scrap paper can be used to embellish the top right hand corner of the card and stick on a button on top of the paper.

Tip!: Try to co-ordinate the colours. For example, the brown button co-ordinate with the colour of the journal card. The green washi tape co-ordinates with the green button and green twine.

Lastly, you can make the card prettier by using glitter or for this card, a swirl adhesive sticker. Cut a small piece of swirl from the big swirl and paste it on top of the glitter paper and at the edge of the rectangular sticker.

Tip:! You can flick some gold paint on top of the background patterned paper to give it some glow (can't be seen clearly on the card) and also use a small strip of glitter paper as border in line with the smaller piece on top of the journal card. Cut it using the fancy edge scissors.

The Final Look!

Last tip!: Leave some space, for instance the bottom half of the card, for the greeting title.

Close up

This is optional. You can colour in the flowers or add stickles (glitter glue) of the same colour or in gold. Ink the edges of the card with the coloured stamp pad.

DONE!
